Whilst working at Ordinary Ltd, I was given the task of designing a two-tier residential house with a central communal space that opened up to the outside in some way. I wanted to create a space that felt very light and open whilst also being able to feel quite secluded. I used aluminium foam on the walls of the house to allow light to stream into the house in a way that feels very organic, almost like light shining through trees.
The central section then opens with the walls folding outwards, transforming the house into a cross shape. I wanted the walls to fold out to create that flexibility, allowing the house to transform layout as oppose to simply being an opening.
